Engaging Hispanic Students at UTPB
Presentation and Discussion by
Dr. Jaime Chahin
Dr. Chahin is an authority on minority issues on college campuses in particular on the transition of rural Hispanics to institutions of higher education. In response to staff and faculty interest he addressed such issues as: How do we attract and engage first generation Hispanic students? Do culturally based student clubs inhibit interaction with the full student body? Are students not getting the world picture when we focus on regional ethnic heritage? How do cultural experiences affect student participation in our classes? What changes in teaching can foster better performance by minority students and increase enjoyment by the professor?
This workshop was held on Wednesday April 13, 2005.
