Awards will be presented at the 25th Annual Texas Leadership Forum in Austin, Texas.

Outstanding Texas Leader

This award is presented to an individual who has made contributions on a statewide level. The honoree may or may not have served as an elected statewide official. While the total career of the individual is considered, emphasis should be placed on accomplishments within the past five years. This award exemplifies the spirit of John Ben Shepperd who advocated that all Texans have a duty to serve their state.

Outstanding Local Leader

This award is presented to an individual who has made contributions at the local level. This grassroots leader   protects the best interests of his/her community as a volunteer, civic worker and/or local elected official.  There should be an emphasis on the accomplishments within the past five years. This award also exemplifies the spirit of John Ben Shepperd who advocated that all citizens have a duty to serve their local communities.

Selection Criteria

Award winners will be selected using the following criteria

  • Demonstrated leadership while exhibiting character and high standards of ethics
  • Scope and significance of accomplishments as a volunteer, elected official, educator, philanthropist, business leaders, religious leader, etc., in community or state affairs
While the nominee's entire public service history will be considered, selection emphasis will be placed on accomplishments of the past five years.
 
Judges

A panel of past recipients and distinguished Texas citizens will review the applications and select the 2010 honorees. The judges reserve the right to change the category of the candidate if necessary and appropriate.

Rules for Nomination

  • Recipient MUST BE PRESENT to accept award - finalists will be contacted to confirm
  • Must be a current resident of Texas
  • Cannot appear on a ballot in a contested race for elected office the same year as nominated for award
  • Cannot serve on any board or be related to anyone representing the awarding agencies

Our ailment is slumped-over citizenship, and the only cure for it is better citizen posture - a straightening of the spine.
